Sunyani: Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has urged the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to continuously prepare to respond to emerging national security challenges. He emphasized that the GAF must be well-positioned to swiftly address growing national security complexities, highlighting the importance of consistent training, commitment, and upholding excellence and professionalism.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akwaboa offered this advice during the closing session of the Central Command march and shooting competition of the GAF at the Yawhima Shooting Range in the Sunyani Municipality. The competition, held periodically, aims to assess the military's operational capabilities in navigation, obstacle crossing, and marksmanship.
Mr. Akwaboa praised the event, noting that competitions like the March and Shoot enhance the operational readiness of the military. He remarked that the competition is not only about winning trophies but also about sharpening skills, building endurance, reinforcing discipline, and strengthening teamwork, which are essential pillars of the military profession.
He urged the military to apply their skills professionally in confronting emerging security threats in the region and across the country. Mr. Akwaboa expressed concern about the increasing activities of illegal mining and logging in the country, identifying them as critical threats to the nation's future. He encouraged the military to translate their skills into coordinated operations to tackle these threats.
In the competition, the 154 Armoured Regiment emerged as winners with 308 points, followed by the Headquarters Central Command Camp with 284 points, the Third Garrison Infantry Battalion (3BN) with 259 points, and the Fourth Infantry Battalion (4BN) with 173 points.
