GACC Praises President Mahama for Sanctioning Appointees Over Asset Declaration

Accra: The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has expressed appreciation for the disciplinary measures taken by President John Dramani Mahama against government appointees who did not declare their assets.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama announced that appointees who failed to file their asset declaration within the stipulated time would forfeit their three months' salaries as sanctions. This decision follows the expiration of directives mandating appointees to submit their asset declarations by March 31, 2025, in compliance with the country's legal requirements.

Mr. Samuel Harrison-Cudjoe, the Programmes Officer of GACC, reacted to the sanctions, stating that while the coalition had hoped for more decisive actions, such as dismissals to serve as a stronger deterrent, they acknowledged the leadership demonstrated so far. "We trust that President Mahama will follow through with firmer measures, including dismissals, should any appointee fail to meet the Wednesday, 7th May 2025 deadline for asset declaration," he noted.

Mr. Harrison-Cudjoe emphasized that the GACC remains committed to supporting efforts that promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in Ghana. Meanwhile, anti-corruption observers have been advocating for the publication of assets declared by appointees and others required by law to ensure greater transparency.
