Bunkpurugu: The Police in Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the North East Region have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman, Noab Bilatukin, at Sangbana village near Bunkpurugu.

According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects, identified as Suuk Jakwa, 67, Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32, Moapya Kwayaja, 30, and Amos Nlaji, 29, allegedly accused the deceased of witchcraft and lynched her on July 10, 2025. The four suspects, along with others who are currently at large, fled the village following the incident. However, they were apprehended after a police operation.

A press release from Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabiik Anamain of the Police Public Affairs Unit, North East Region, stated that the suspects were captured four days later, based on solid intelligence, at various locations around Bunkpurugu. They are currently undergoing interrogation and will face court proceedings upon the completion of the investigation.

The release reiterated the police's appeal to the public, particularly residents of the North East Region, to stop accusing people, especially the elderly, of witchcraft and subjecting them to violence. It warned that individuals engaging in such acts will face legal consequences.
