Fisherman Remanded for Alleged Theft of GHC50,800 and Mobile Phones from Businessman’s Vehicle

Accra: The Dansoman Circuit Court has ordered the remand of Michael Dodoo, a fisherman, into police custody for allegedly stealing GHC 50,800 and two mobile phones from a businessman's vehicle in Accra Central. The incident reportedly occurred on September 20, 2025, with Dodoo working alongside three others, identified as Prince, Amuguaye, and Sadiku, who are currently at large.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dodoo, aged 21, has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, and stealing. He is scheduled to reappear before the court on October 20, with the session presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit.

The prosecution, headed by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, revealed that the complainant, Seidu Mohammed, a businessman residing in Koforidua, had parked his Opel vehicle in front of UBA Bank, Accra Central Branch, at approximately 0400 hours on the day of the incident. Mohammed left his vehicle unlocked and crossed the road to purchase tea, leaving behind a bag containing two Tecno mobile phones, valued at GHC 3,500, and GHC 50,800 in cash.

The prosecution stated that Dodoo, along with his alleged accomplices, devised a plan to open the vehicle and steal any valuable items. They reportedly entered the car through the front door and absconded with the phones and money. The police, acting on intelligence about the activities of the accused at the location, arrested Dodoo. A search led to the recovery of two Tecno mobile phones, which the complainant identified as his stolen property.

During the investigation, Dodoo informed the police that a dispute arose among the group over the division of the stolen goods, resulting in Amuquaye taking custody of the money for future distribution. The prosecution noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend Prince, Amuguaye, and Sadiku, with investigations continuing.
