Finance Minister Inaugurates 13-Member Board of Ghana GoldBod

Accra: Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister for Finance, has inaugurated a 13-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). He described the body as a strategic vehicle for achieving effective currency management and bolstering the country's economic resilience. Dr. Forson, swearing in the members at a brief ceremony, congratulated the newly constituted board on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on the Board's mandate.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Forson highlighted the impressive turnaround in Ghana's currency performance, noting that as of May 13, 2025, the Ghana cedi has solidified its position as the standout performer among global currencies, achieving a 16.7 per cent appreciation against the US dollar year-to-date. This marked a significant reversal from the 13.4 per cent depreciation observed in the same period of 2024, with the cedi earning recognition as the top-performing currency in April 2025.

Dr. Forson attributed the sustained rally of the cedi to a combination of robust monetary and fiscal policy coordination, improved forex inflows from gold, cocoa, and remittances, and disciplined public finance management. He emphasized that the record-high foreign exchange reserves at the Bank of Ghana, which exceeded IMF programme targets ahead of schedule, underscored the sustainability of the cedi's recent performance.

Mr. Kojo Fynn, the Chairperson of the Board, assured that the Board would serve with humility, uphold the highest standards of good governance, and engage all stakeholders in the execution of its duties. He acknowledged the weighty responsibilities enshrined in the Gold Board's enabling Act and pledged the board's full commitment to delivering on its mandate.

Members of the Ghana Gold Board include Mr. Kojo Fynn as the Chairperson, Mr. Samuel Gyamfi as Acting CEO of the Gold Board, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Deputy Minister for Finance, and Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana. Other members are representatives from various relevant sectors and institutions, ensuring a wide array of expertise and experience on the board.
