Moscow: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Galuzin, has accused certain political forces within the European Union of attempting to derail dialogue between Moscow and Washington by making unfounded accusations against Russia, according to local media reports.
According to Ghana News Agency, Galuzin expressed his concerns during an interview with Russia's Izvestia newspaper. He claimed that a 'war party' within the EU is working to undermine constructive U.S.-Russia contacts. This includes the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska, which centered on a political and diplomatic settlement of the Ukraine crisis.
Galuzin accused these forces of attempting to disrupt the dialogue process and pull the United States to their side. He mentioned that they are employing unscrupulous methods, such as making baseless accusations against Russia for allegedly violating NATO countries' airspace or sending drones into their territory.
The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the allegations of Russian airspace violations lack credible evidence. His remarks came in response to recent statements by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal. Michal claimed that Tallinn had requested consultations with NATO allies under Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, following an incident involving three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets allegedly entering Estonian airspace.
In response, Russia's Defense Ministry denied these allegations. The ministry stated that the aircraft conducted a planned flight from Karelia to the Kaliningrad region, adhering fully to international airspace regulations. It further emphasized that the jets did not deviate from their approved route and did not cross Estonia's borders, a fact confirmed by objective monitoring data.
