Accra: Faith Ladies have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Women's FA Cup after beating Jonina Ladies 2-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday. Erica Apreku's brace was all the Dansoman based side needed to secure a major title after battling a disappointing premier league season.
According to Ghana News Agency, the downpour almost ruined a game that pulled a large crowd who kept cheering their favorite teams in back-to-back jama sessions. Faith Ladies, a familiar foe in the competition, took control of the opening minutes with hopes of breaking the deadlock. The Dansoman-based side almost found the back of the net with a counterattack which was met by shot-stopper Osman Huzeimah.
Black Princesses attacker, Agnes Yeboah, got Jonina Ladies back into the game as she kept tormenting the defense of Faith Ladies with her quick feet. The young prodigy missed a golden opportunity in the 24th minute after she beautifully danced through Faith's defense with ease. The final minutes of the first half saw both goalkeepers busy in between the sticks with saves to keep the two sides in the game.
After recess, the game got more exciting, leaving fans in an emotional rollercoaster journey. From saves to one-on-one chances, the two teams lived up to expectations as the best female clubs in the competition so far. An impressive 90 minutes of action could not produce any result with extra time being the ultimate settler for the cracker.
Faith Ladies through Apreku bounced back from a goal down in extra time to complete a 2-1 comeback against Jonina Ladies to be crowned champions of the 2024/25 FA Cup.
