Western Region: A total of eleven women will be contesting in this year's election as members of parliament in the Western region.According to Ghana News Agency, out of the figure, five are contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), three for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), two independent candidates, and one for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).Mrs. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Jomoro, will be contesting three other candidates: Mr. Paul Essien of the NPP, Madam Samia Nkrumah as an independent candidate, and Nana Blay Miezah of the Convention People's Party (CPP). Meanwhile, Mrs. Mavis Kuuku Bissue, a first-timer, is contesting the Ahanta West seat against Mr. Francis Eric Pobee of the NPP.Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe is vying for the Amenfi Central seat, competing with three others, while Madam Emilia Arthur, a former Deputy Western Regional Minister, is contesting for the Shama seat against Mr. Isaac Kwamina Afful.Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, a sec ond-timer, will be battling it out with Mr. Charles Cromwell Bissue of NPP for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency seat. Mrs. Catherine Afeku of the NPP, a former Minister, will be contesting against Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe of the NDC for the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency. Mrs. Gertrude Effah Monah will be battling it out with Mr. Isaac Mensah for the Wassa East seat, while Madam Barbara Oteng-Gyasi is vying for the Prestea Huni-Valley seat against two others.Additionally, Madam Samia Nkrumah will contest the Jomoro Seat as an independent candidate, Ms. Joy Joycelyn Andoh will contest the Tarkwa Nsuaem seat as an independent, and Madam Theresah Kwaw will contest the Mpohor seat on the ticket of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).In the Western North Region, two women are vying for seats. Mrs. Louisa Nkuah Kwayie will contest on the ticket of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) in the Sefwi Wiawso constituency, while Ms. Ernestina Oppong will contest for the Juaboso seat on the ticket of the CPP.
