Election 2024: First day of voter exhibition records low turnout

Accra: The first day of the Electoral Commission's (EC) nationwide voter exhibition exercise ahead of the December polls has recorded low turnout at most centres nationwide.The exercise, which will run from August 20 to 27, 2024, is for voters to correct their names and other details, ensure the removal of names of deceased persons, and minors among others, during the period.The Ghana News Agency (GNA) recorded the low patronage of the exercise when it visited some exhibition centres across the country.In the national capital, EC officials were virtually idling at some centres when the GNA visited on the first day.In the Okaikwei South constituency at the Bubuashie Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church Centre 1 and 2, out of the 504 and 425 registered prospective voters, only nine and five came to check their names respectively.Ms Nana Adwoa and Naomi Tetteh, the EC officials at the two centres, were hopeful that in the coming days, the turnout would improve.The situation was not different at the K aneshie North 1 and 2 School at Bubuashie, which has three exhibition centres - A, B and C.At centre A, out of the 120 registered voters, only two came to check their names, at centre B, only two verified out of 68 voters, and at centre C, only three persons came to check their names out of 177 registered voters.Security personnel were seen at all the centres.Agents for the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party were also present.Source: Ghana News Agency
