Ekumfi: Dr Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, has initiated the construction of the first-ever Ekumfi District Police Headquarters at Ekumfi Essakyir, the district capital. The facility is anticipated to serve as the central hub of law enforcement, enhancing rapid response to crime and providing a sense of security for farmers, traders, fisherfolk, and students.
According to Ghana News Agency, the project will be executed with the support of free labor from the community, alongside contributions from donors and development partners. For many years, Ekumfi has been dependent on police support from neighboring commands in Mankessim, Jedu, and Saltpond, which often resulted in delayed responses during emergencies. This reliance frequently overwhelmed personnel and left communities vulnerable.
The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, clergy, youth groups, women associations, and security officials. The project was welcomed as a timely intervention that promises to transform security in the region. In a symbolic gesture, the MP and local chiefs jointly participated in turning the soil, marking the official commencement of construction.
Dr. Kwainoe emphasized that the establishment of the police headquarters is a critical step in strengthening security and restoring confidence across the district. He underscored the importance of security as a fundamental right and pledged to ensure that all citizens feel safe. 'From the farmer in Akwansa Kokodo to the trader in Essakyir, from the fisherfolk in Immuna to the student in Otuam; every citizen deserves to feel safe,' he stated.
The MP reiterated that the ceremony was not just about turning the soil but about planting the seed of safety, dignity, and prosperity. He expressed optimism that the project would not only result in a new police headquarters but also herald a stronger future for Ekumfi.
