Drasi Africa Brings Relief to Korle-Bu National Diabetes Research Centre with Generous Donation

Accra: Drasi Africa, a non-profit organization, has made a significant contribution to the National Diabetes Management and Research Centre at Korle-Bu Hospital. The donation, which includes the installation of four air-conditioners, security doors, and a cash amount of GHS25,000.00, aims to support the medical department in settling outstanding bills of patients who have defaulted on their payments.

According to Ghana News Agency, the organization has also pledged to cover the entire cost of installing the air-conditioners to ensure the unit incurs no additional financial burden. During a media briefing, Madam Deborah Nissi Diafo, Manager of Drasi Africa, emphasized the organization's mission to create sustainable environmental and social impact by promoting green alternatives, skill development, and humanitarian care for vulnerable communities.

Madam Diafo highlighted the initiative as more than just a distribution of items, noting it as an act of extending 'hope, dignity and solidarity' to those in need. She stated, "This moment is not just about handing over items; it is about sharing care, compassion, and community." She further expressed gratitude to the donors, partners, volunteers, and team members whose efforts facilitated the exercise, adding, "Your commitment reminds us that change is not a concept; it is something we can hold with our hands, see in our community, and feel in our hearts."

Mr. Charles Amofa, a Sports Development Officer, commended Drasi Africa for the initiative and urged other organizations to emulate this generous gesture. "What Drasi did for Korle Bu Teaching Hospital was commendable," he said, expressing his support for the project due to his passion for health. He encouraged other NGOs to follow this example and support healthcare delivery.

Dr. Yacoba Atiase, Head of the Unit of Diabetes Centre, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, acknowledging that the donation was not just about equipment but also about making patients comfortable. She noted, "You pledged to provide eight air-conditioners and today you have brought four, with the promise to bring four more for other rooms. We do not take this for granted, and neither will our patients."

Mr. Kenneth Lamptey, Administrator of the Department Medical Block, also expressed profound appreciation to Drasi Africa for extending support to patients who were unable to settle their medical bills. He highlighted the impact of the cash donation, stating, "As a public hospital, some of our patients are not able to afford the cost of their treatment. The cash donation provided will go a long way to defray outstanding costs of services already delivered but left unpaid."
