Dormaa East DCE Inaugurates Ultra-Modern Canopy Walkway to Boost Eco-Tourism.

Dormaa Ahenkro: Mr Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the Dormaa East District Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has inaugurated the first phase of an ultra-modern eco-tourism facility being constructed at Nsesresu, a farming community. This development is anticipated to significantly enhance eco-tourism in the district.According to Ghana News Agency, the facility features a canopy walkway built on an earth dam and includes amenities such as a yet-to-be-completed zip line, summer huts, boat and horse running arenas, a recreational centre, an arrival lounge, a learning and historic records centre, and artefacts. This initiative aligns with the Labour-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) project, funded by the Ghana Production Safety Net Projects (GPSNP2), aimed at creating employment opportunities in selected districts.Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Nsesresu, Mr Agyemang highlighted that the GPSNP2 project aims to establish a robust system for effective social protection delivery. It also seeks to create income- earning opportunities to improve the socio-economic livelihoods of the local population. The facility will nurture various species of animals and plants, enhancing the natural habitat and biodiversity. Additionally, economic plants like cinnamon, nutmeg, and coconut trees will be cultivated.Mr Agyemang emphasized that the facility would not only conserve natural resources but also serve as a learning platform and stimulate the local economy by creating jobs as businesses develop in the area. He encouraged local artisans and craftspeople to utilize the facility to display their products for optimal benefit.A management board, comprising representatives from the Ghana Tourism Board, traditional authorities, and assembly members, has been established to oversee the facility's operations. Alhaji Hakeem Ismael, the Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTB), praised the Assembly's efforts, stating that the GTB acknowledges the significance of eco-tourism and will collaborate with the Assembly to ensure that the nation reaps benefits from the facility.Nana Diamono Kokoti, the Chief of Mansen (Wamfie), also lauded the government for initiating the project, which is expected to drive socio-economic growth and development in the district.
