Director of Adaklu District Health Directorate Calls for Roadmap to Resolve Nurses’ Strike

Adaklu Tsriefe: Mr. Matthew Ayamba Adams, Director of the Adaklu District Health Directorate (DHD), has called on the government to develop a roadmap to address the demands of the striking members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). Mr. Adams emphasized the importance of dialogue between the government and the association to ensure the full implementation of their collective agreement.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Adams made these remarks during an interview in Adaklu Tsriefe, stressing the need for the government to engage with the GRNMA leadership. He suggested that if the government is unable to meet all the terms of the agreement immediately, it should collaborate with the association to establish a phased plan for its complete implementation.

Mr. Adams also appealed to the GRNMA leadership to consider accepting the government's current offer while other issues are gradually resolved. He highlighted the critical role nurses play in healthcare delivery and urged them to reconsider their strike, keeping in mind the needs of the patients.

He further called for a consensus between the government and the association on how to fully implement the collective agreement. The Adaklu DHD Director revealed that local negotiations had resulted in an agreement for a nurse to be on standby at each of the district's 16 health facilities for emergencies.

Additionally, Mr. Adams pointed out that there are two Christian health facilities within the district that the public can utilize. He also mentioned that DHD personnel would be visiting government health facilities to support the limited staff available during the strike.

A patient at the Adaklu Kodzobi Community Health Planning Services Compound expressed gratitude to a nurse who volunteered to provide care and urged the government to swiftly address the nurses' concerns.
