Aflao: The management of Diamond Cement Ghana Limited has appealed to the government to urgently construct the access road leading to its factory to support production efficiency and boost sales. Mr. Tati Ramaro, the General Manager of the company, made the appeal during a visit by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, to the factory on Monday, June 16, 2025, as part of his working tour of the Ketu South Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ramaro highlighted that the current state of the two-kilometer stretch from the Aflao Police Station to the factory premises at Akporkploe was severely affecting the movement of heavy-duty trucks and slowing down operations. He emphasized that the company spends about GHS 500,000 annually to patch the road just to keep it motorable, which is impacting their operations by reducing productivity and profitability.
Mr. Ramaro added that despite the company's tax contributions to the government, Diamond Cement has created numerous job opportunities for residents and remains committed to its corporate social responsibilities in education, healthcare, and other critical sectors. He stressed the need for government intervention to construct the road and sustain their operations, as the company is located in a rural area that requires support and contributes significantly to the local economy.
In response, the Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, assured the company of the government's commitment to supporting industries under the 24-Hour Economic Policy initiative. He acknowledged the role of existing factories like Diamond Cement in driving economic growth and job creation and mentioned that infrastructure challenges affecting them are being addressed.
Mr. Gunu stated that the road to the factory will be constructed, along with several others in the Ketu South Municipality and across the region. He also mentioned that under the President's 'Big Push' infrastructure agenda, key roads including the Tokor-Ho Road would be developed to improve connectivity and support industrial activity.
Furthermore, Mr. Gunu assured the company that upcoming government projects, such as the sea defence works and other major infrastructure developments in the Volta Region, would increase the demand for cement, creating opportunities to expand production and improve sales.
