Accra: The Dada Foundation-Ghana has initiated a GHS 5-million maternity project for the Atua Government Hospital in Krobo Odumase, located in the Eastern Region. The project is set to establish a 20-bed maternity block on approximately 720 square meters of land, featuring facilities such as a laboratory, triage, reception, delivery ward, and neonatal intensive care unit, among others.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Dada Legacy Projects aim to construct similar health facilities in various underprivileged communities throughout the country, honoring the legacy of Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, the Founder and Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana. Over the years, the Foundation has collaborated with health professionals and medical institutions, focusing on communities lacking adequate maternity facilities.
With backing from banking partners like OmniBISC, the Foundation plans to secure the GHS5 million needed for the project within the next 12 months, after which construction will commence. To date, over GHS500,000 has been raised, dedicated to aiding thousands of pregnant women in the hospital's surrounding areas.
The project's launch in Accra was aligned with the inaugural Dada Legacy Awards, which recognized Dr. Fynn with the highest honor for his significant contributions to leadership and development. Other award recipients included First Lady Lordina Mahama, Dr. Akosua Dzifa Hagan, Mr. Stephen Ameyaw, and Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, acknowledged for their contributions to health, education, business innovation, and philanthropy.
During the event, Nana Addae Gyamera I, Chief of Feyiase in the Ashanti Region, delivered the keynote address, highlighting Dr. Fynn's lasting impact as a model of leadership and service. Dr. Fynn himself emphasized the value of service over material wealth, stating, "material possessions are vanity; the key is serving the people."
The Acting Executive Director of the Dada Foundation, Mr. Jacob Fynn, called upon Corporate Ghana and individuals to support the fundraising efforts through donations to ensure the successful construction of the maternity project.
