Court Orders Disclosures in Adu-Boahene Case Before Plea Bargaining Discussions

Accra: An Accra High Court hearing the case involving Mr. Kwabena Adu Boahene, a former Director at the National Signals Bureau, has instructed both parties to file comprehensive disclosures before engaging in any plea bargaining discussions. Justice John Nyadu Nyante, the presiding judge, mandated that these disclosures be filed by the State and served on the defense by Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney General, had initially requested additional time to compile necessary documents due to the unavailability of a key investigator who had been unwell. However, the court refused the request, prompting the directive. Dr. Srem-Sai assured the court that the investigator would be available by Friday, May 30, 2025.

Although Justice Nyante did not publicly disclose the reasoning behind the directive, it followed a private meeting involving the judge, Dr. Srem-Sai, and defense lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea. This sidebar meeting occurred at the request of the Deputy Attorney General.

Adu-Boahene, previously remanded into EOCO custody, will remain on his existing bail of GH?80 million, with two sureties, one of which must be justified. The accused, along with his wife and two others, faces 11 charges, including stealing, money laundering of GHS49.1 million in state funds, willfully causing financial loss to the state, conspiracy, collaboration to commit crime, and abuse of public office. All have pleaded not guilty.

His wife and the other accused individuals will also continue on their existing bail terms. The additional accused are Mildred Donkor, a former banker, and a company, Advantage Solutions Limited. The case is scheduled for a case management conference on June 11, 2025.
