Salakope: Residents of Salakope, Amutsinu, and the surrounding communities have begun exhuming corpses of beloved bodies as tidal waves ravaged various cemeteries. The devastating situation has left many residents restless and homeless whilst houses and other belongings have been submerged.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Eben Asah, the Assembly member of the area, stated in an earlier interview that the tidal waves’ destruction started on Thursday, January 16, with about 100 people displaced. He expressed concerns that if the situation continued, the main road linking Keta-Aflao might be cut off for pedestrians and motorists.
Mr. Asah explained that some corpses were exhumed by the tidal waves, while some families voluntarily exhumed their beloved corpses and buried them in safer areas to prevent them from being carried away by the tidal waves.
Mr. Etsey Akponovia, a resident of Salakope, explained that families could not bear the thought of their loved ones being washed away by the tidal waves. He mentioned that properties, buildings, churches, and other residential places were destroyed, calling for immediate attention to address the situation for the people living along the coast.
Mr. Akponovia highlighted the urgent need for attention to prevent destruction from affecting other communities, including Agbozume, Denu, and Aflao. He appealed to the government and philanthropists to urgently help build a sea defense wall to prevent further destruction, which could wash away many communities completely and promote economic gains in the area.
