Christians Encouraged to Prioritize Prayer in Worship

According to Ghana News Agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Rt. Rev. Dzomeku delivered this message during a sermon at the burial service for the late Very Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Kormla Gbordzoe, a former Moderator of the GEC, held at the Jubilee Park in Ho. Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe, the fourth Moderator of the Church, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the Ho Teaching Hospital following a short illness.

Rt. Rev. Dzomeku's sermon, based on Matthew 6:7-13, focused on the importance of prayer in spiritual growth. He urged Christians to increase their commitment to prayer, highlighting the late Moderator's strong belief in its power as a model for others to follow.

In a tribute, the children of Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe expressed their admiration for him as a devoted father who valued family above all. They described him as a man of prayer and integrity, whose guidance was marked by honesty and a steadfast moral compass.

Mrs. Sena Gbordzoe, the widow, remembered her husband as an incredible father and husband, noting his love and patience. She praised him as a friend, confidant, and prayer partner.

The GEC's tribute highlighted the late Moderator's role in strengthening the church through partnerships with foreign entities and individuals. His second term saw significant achievements, including acquiring residences for the Moderator and Synod Clerk and establishing a convention center.

Family members recalled Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe's encouragement to uphold virtues of honesty and truthfulness. They mourned his passing as the loss of a pillar and great oak tree in their family.

Born on August 23, 1949, in Awate Todzi, Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe was the sixth of ten siblings. His education journey began at Awate Todzi United Primary and continued at the Local Authority Middle School. After passing the Common Entrance Examination, he attended West Africa Secondary School in Accra in 1966.

He later entered the Presbyterian Teachers Training College and taught before joining the Trinity Theological Seminary in 1980. Ordained in 1983, he became a Minister of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Following a church split, he joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, now the GEC.

Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe, whose mother was a Priestess, was elected as the GEC Moderator in 2003 and inducted in January 2004. His burial took place in his hometown, Awate Todzi, on Saturday.
