Christian Council of Ghana to Mark 96th Anniversary with Breakfast Meeting

Accra: The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) will on Thursday, October 30, mark its 96th anniversary with a Breakfast Meeting in Accra to celebrate nearly a century of faith-based service, national partnership, and moral leadership. The event, on the theme: 'Reflections, Achievements, Setbacks and the Way Forward,' will be held at the Ridge Church from 0700 hours to 0900 hours and it is expected to bring together the clergy, national leaders, development partners, and representatives of the Christian Community to reflect on the Council's journey and its role in nation-building.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by the Reverend Dr Cyril Fayose, the General Secretary of the Council, said the meeting would be chaired by Rev. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, the Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, a seasoned ecumenist and distinguished national leader who has served the Church and State in various capacities.

Dr Samuel Amo Tobbin, the Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, will deliver the keynote address during which he will share perspectives on the theme, focusing on the role of faith and divine guidance in human endeavours, leadership, and national development. The Presidency will be represented by Nana Oye Bampoe-Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, as a mark of the long-standing partnership between the Church and the State.

Founded on October 30, 1929 by five historic mission churches, the Christian Council of Ghana has evolved into a formidable ecumenical body with more than 30 member churches and para-church organisations. Over the decades, the Council has been instrumental in promoting peace, social justice, good governance, and interfaith dialogue, while upholding the moral and spiritual values that shape national consciousness.

The 96th Anniversary Celebration would not only be a time of thanksgiving but also an opportunity for reflection and renewal, the statement said. The Breakfast Meeting also serves as a precursor to the Christian Council's maiden Ecumenical Convention, scheduled for November 14-16, 2025, at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The Convention will bring together Christian leaders across denominations to deepen dialogue on faith, unity, and national transformation. The activities for the anniversary were designed to set the tone for the Council's centenary celebrations in 2029, which would feature a series of national and community-based events, projects, and advocacy initiatives.

It reaffirmed the Council's commitment to working closely with government, civil society, and other faith-based organisations to promote ecumenism, interfaith harmony, peace, and social cohesion. The Christian Council's 96-year journey reflects a legacy of faith, unity, and moral advocacy, a heritage the leadership hopes to preserve and build upon as Ghana approaches the centenary in 2029.
