Accra: The Christian Council of Ghana has expressed its condolences to the government and people of Ghana following the tragic loss of Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, and seven other individuals.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Council's statement, signed by Reverend Dr Cyril Fayose, General Secretary, highlighted the profound sadness felt over the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Dr Omane Boamah, Dr Muratala Ibrahim Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and six others.
The other victims were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Adu Mensah. The crash occurred while they were en route to Obuasi from Accra, at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The statement described the unfortunate event as a 'black Wednesday,' marking a day of national tragedy and mourning. The Council extended heartfelt sympathies to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President John Mahama, as well as to the Armed Forces, the government, Parliament, and the bereaved families and friends of the victims.
The statement concluded with a hope that such a tragedy would not befall the nation again, and a prayer for the eternal rest of the souls of the eight compatriots.
