Chiefs’ Role in Local Governance and Rural Development Crucial – DCE

Ahafo ano south-west: Mr. Abubakar Sedik, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South-West in the Ashanti Region, has underscored the critical role of chiefs in local governance and rural development. He emphasized the importance of traditional authorities in the democratic framework of local governance, asserting that their involvement is indispensable for effective governance at the district level.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Sedik made these statements during separate meetings with the chiefs of Wioso, Kunsu, and Mankranso. These meetings were part of his familiarization tour aimed at introducing himself to the traditional rulers in the district. The discussions also focused on identifying priority projects, particularly the development of markets, and strategizing on their successful execution.Mr. Sedik assured the chiefs of his commitment to building a model and modernized 24-hour market at Mankranso and Kunsu to enhance the local economy. He also promised to work towards completing the ongoing modern market project initiated by the previous government at Wioso. The DCE highlighted the government's dedication to fulfilling its promises by ensuring the district receives its equitable share of national resources.In response, Nana Owusu Amankwaatia Sampene, Chief of Mankranso, Nana Assaw Ababio, Chief of Wioso, and Nana Agyemang Duah, Chief of Kunsu, pledged their support to Mr. Sedik. They expressed their willingness to collaborate closely with the DCE to facilitate the much-needed development in the area.
