Chiefs and People of Anlo Gearing Up for Mini-Hogbetsotso at Mafi Adidome

Accra: The Chiefs and people of Anlo in the Volta Region are preparing for the upcoming Mini-Hogbetsotso festival to be hosted in Mafi Adidome in the North Tongu district. This event, a smaller version of the grand Hogbetsotso festival celebrated in Anlo, is anticipated to unite Anlo citizens from various backgrounds.

According to Ghana News Agency, the festival, which holds cultural significance in Anloland, commemorates the migration of the Anlo people from Notsie in Togo under Torgbui Agorkorli to their current homeland in Ghana. It serves as a moment for the Anlo people to reflect on their history, culture, and traditions. The Mini Hogbetsotso festival in North Tongu is set to feature traditional drumming and dancing, along with exhibitions of traditional artifacts and crafts that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Anlo people.

The festival's planning committee, Anlo Dukor council, in collaboration with Mafi Traditional Council and Ghana Exim Bank, has outlined a programme for this year's event. The Mini-Hogbetsotso festival offers an excellent opportunity for the youth of Anlo to learn about their cultural heritage, demonstrate their talents, connect with their roots, and unite various communities in celebrating a shared identity and tradition.

The organisers appeal to the public to come out in large numbers to support and celebrate the event. Mr. Raymond Kumatsey, an Anlo citizen, highlighted the festival's significance in honoring the history, culture, and traditions of the Anlo people, providing an opportunity for the community to reflect on their shared identity and responsibilities. He noted the festival's potential positive impact on the local economy as visitors boost business in the area, with local artisans and traders preparing to showcase their wares.

Local organisers have ensured that preparations are in place to accommodate the expected influx of visitors, chiefs, and dignitaries. Dignitaries expected to attend include Togbi Sri III, Awoamefia of Anlo Dukor, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo, Mama Wotorbe II, President Anlo Queens Council, and other notable figures.

The Mini-Hogbetsotso festival will be celebrated on Friday, October 25, under the theme 'Building Bridges: From common history to a common destiny,' with the main Hogbetsotso festival scheduled for Saturday, November 1, at Anlo Hogbe Park in Anloga.
