Chief to Set Up Taskforce to Combat Drug Abuse in Sefwi-Kofikrom

Sefwi-Kofikrom: Nana Kwasi Aduhene, Chief of Sefwi-Kofikrom in the Juaboso district of the Western North Region, has announced plans to establish a taskforce aimed at monitoring and preventing drug abuse among the community's youth. This initiative comes as a response to the growing concern over young individuals becoming involved in substance abuse.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Kwasi Aduhene expressed his worries during a dinner organized by the Native Movement Youth Association of Kofikrom, highlighting the alarming rate at which the youth are engaging with hard drugs. He emphasized that drug abuse is jeopardizing the future of the next generation, leading to increased incidents of criminal activities such as robbery, rape, and defilement. The chief called for collective action to eradicate this pressing issue.

In his address, the traditional leader suggested that his office would work towards enhancing educational efforts about the harmful effects of drug abuse for the community's youth. He also appealed to both the government and non-governmental organizations to create employment opportunities for young people, as he identified unemployment as a significant factor contributing to drug abuse.

Mr. James Gyabeng, President of the Native Movement Youth Association, echoed the chief's concerns and urged the Member of Parliament for the area to consider integrating more local youth into security agencies. This, he believes, could be an effective strategy to curb unemployment and reduce crime rates within the community.
