Chief Justice Torkornoo Responds to Petitions Seeking Her Removal

Accra: Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo on Monday submitted her written response to the three petitions seeking her removal from office to the President. This action follows a directive from President John Mahama, who had issued a 10-day ultimatum for her to address the concerns raised in the petitions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Presidential request for a response was prompted by an earlier letter from the Chief Justice, in which she had requested copies of the petitions. In addition to responding to the President, Chief Justice Torkornoo also provided copies of her response to the Council of State.

The issue, which had been previously referred by the President to the Council of State for consultation, will now be assessed by the Council to determine if there is a prima facie case against the Chief Justice. The outcome of this assessment will decide the next steps in this legal and political matter.
