Accra: Mr Alamzy Billa Nikyema, the Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has presented GHS2000.00 each to 220 women in the area to support boost their business ventures. The gesture, which amounted to GHS440,000, from his share of the Common Fund, was part of Mr Nikyema's commitment to local economic empowerment of his Constituents.According to Ghana News Agency, the MP in an interview with journalists after a programme to present cheques to the beneficiaries, including peasant farmers and petty traders, conceded that even though the money was not enough, it would cushion them in their respective business ventures. Mr Nikyema, accompanied by Mr Stephen Aeke Akurugu, the District Chief Executive for the area, acknowledged the financial challenges of women in the Constituency and urged the various women groups to register the groups with proper documents, emphasizing the importance of documentation for soliciting support.The financial support was described as part of the social interventio n programmes of the Mahama-led administration. Apart from the 220 beneficiary women, 169 needy but brilliant students would also be supported. Mr Nikyema mentioned that two Bachelor of Law, a medical, and an engineering student in the Constituency were beneficiaries of the MP's scholarship. He expressed the wish to support a total of six students for now, with plans to enroll the remaining two before the next academic year.Mr Nikyema outlined the future goal of offering full scholarships to needy but brilliant students studying medicine, law, engineering, and economics, covering 300 students in professional fields. He also mentioned the renovation of three schools to be equipped with modern furniture, aiming to refurbish all Junior High Schools in the Constituency to improve quality teaching and learning.The MP emphasized that all forms of support to Constituents from his office were devoid of political affiliation and aimed to develop and improve the lives of Constituents. Some beneficiaries, in an inter view with the Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to the MP for his 'thoughtfulness' and wished him good health to continue supporting them and working in the interest of the Constituency.
