Call for Global Environmental Stewardship Echoed at Evangelical Presbyterian Church Synod

Accra: Mr Victor Attah Ntumi, Executive Director of the African Rural Integrated Network Ghana (AFRINET Ghana), has reiterated the importance of humanity's responsibility towards environmental care to ensure sustainability. Speaking during the opening ceremony of the 15th Presbytery Synod of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Central Presbytery, he emphasized that mankind is tasked with the stewardship of God's creation, as highlighted by the biblical mandate to till and keep the land.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Ntumi addressed the growing environmental challenges, including deforestation, pollution, and climate change, which disproportionately affect the vulnerable and future generations. He described the theme of the Synod, 'Care for Creation: The task and mission of the Church,' as not only timely but also prophetic, urging the Church to extend its mission beyond the pulpit to include environmental conservation.

He called on the Church to act as the conscience of the world by challenging destructive systems and promoting sustainable living. He urged the Synod attendees to leave with a renewed passion for environmental action, transforming churches into hubs for ecological awareness and advocacy.

Mr Ntumi highlighted the need for young people to be empowered as champions of ecological justice and for worship to reflect a deep respect for creation. He also encouraged citizens to participate in health initiatives, such as immunization exercises, and to prioritize healthy living by using treated bed nets appropriately.

Reverend Dr A.K Addae, Presbytery Synod Moderator, also addressed the gathering, urging members to engage in evangelism to increase the Church's dwindling membership, particularly in the Fodome-Wli area of the Gbi-Wegbe Pastoral District.
