Accra: Cabinet has approved the 24-Hour Authority Bill for submission to Parliament, President John Mahama announced at a media encounter at the Presidency.
According to Ghana News Agency, this move is part of the government’s broader 24-Hour Economy Vision, with several institutions already embracing round-the-clock operations.
President Mahama highlighted that the Ghana Publishing Company has transitioned to a 24-hour operation. Similarly, the Passport Office and Ghana’s foreign missions are now offering continuous services to expedite passport processing and enhance service delivery. Additionally, both Tema and Takoradi ports have adopted 24-hour operations to improve trade efficiency and alleviate congestion.
To ensure safety within this evolving framework, a dedicated 24-Hour Economy Policy Secretariat has been established within the Ministry of Interior. This unit is tasked with providing continuous security support nationwide. The President emphasized that these initiatives reflect a national commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and job-rich economy.
Addressing economic stability, President Mahama noted a significant drop in inflation from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% in July 2025, marking the lowest rate since December 2021. The President pointed out that the stabilization is impacting the real economy, with prices of key commodities falling and businesses actively advertising price reductions.
Official data from trade associations presented to Parliament shows that up to 4,500 items have seen price reductions. President Mahama stressed that the government’s economic policies aim to provide tangible relief to Ghanaian households, underscoring the importance of economic recovery in everyday life.
Ghana has maintained its bond repayment obligations, and global credit rating agencies, such as S and P Global Ratings, have upgraded Ghana’s country credit risk to B- with a stable outlook. This reflects renewed investor confidence and positive momentum in economic management.
To sustain economic recovery, the government is implementing bold job-creating initiatives. A key component is the 24-Hour Economy Initiative, which aims to boost micro and small and medium enterprises, modernize agriculture, and expand employment opportunities across key sectors. The initiative is designed not just to extend working hours but to unlock economic potential.
