Bono NADMO Initiates 1,000 Tree Planting in Local Schools

Sunyani: The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has embarked on a project to plant 1,000 tree species in various Basic Schools across the Bono region. This initiative aims to restore the region's vegetative cover and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of NADMO, explained that the Forestry Commission provided the tree seedlings for this project. The planting exercise kicked off at SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Primary School in Odomase, located within the Sunyani West Municipality.

Mrs. Kine-Lam highlighted the dual purpose of the tree planting initiative, stating that the trees would also function as windbreaks. She encouraged the schools involved to take proper care of the trees to ensure they yield the maximum benefits. "Trees are very important aspects of human life as they give us shade, fresh air, and protect our buildings," she stated.

The tree planting efforts are set to expand to selected schools in multiple districts, including Tain, Banda, Berekum West, Dormaa East, Dormaa West, Jaman North, as well as the municipalities of Jaman South, Dormaa Central, Wenchi, and Berekum East.

Mr. Quansah Kofi Shoaib, Headteacher of SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Primary School, expressed gratitude towards NADMO for their initiative and committed to nurturing and maintaining the newly planted trees.
