Bono Minister Pledges Support to Elevate UENR to World-Class Status

Sunyani: Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting higher education institutions, pledging direct assistance to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and position it to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class institution. He lauded the leadership of the institution for its prudent use of Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and other financial resources and particularly commended the Vice-Chancellor and the management for delivering key infrastructural projects. The projects include an administrative office complex, four lecture pavilions, and a basic school, among others.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akwaboah gave the commendation during his visit to the university's main campus in Sunyani to acquaint himself with their operations and assured the government's resolve 'not to leave UENR behind in its broader national development agenda'. He mentioned that discussions were ongoing with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for construction work to resume on all stalled projects on the university's campuses, including those at UENR.

Professor Asare-Bediako expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama's led National Democratic Congress government for their renewed commitment to the University. He said that through the government intervention, funds had been released for contractors to resume work on projects that had been abandoned for over five years and acknowledged the government's pledge to provide GHC10 million seed funding for UENR.

Prof Asare-Bediako appealed to corporate bodies like the Ghana Gas and the Bank of Ghana to expedite support for the completion of some projects they had already initiated at the university. The Vice Chancellor also called on other stakeholders to join efforts in advancing the government's 'Reset Agenda' in education and strengthening UENR's capacity to contribute meaningfully to national development.
