Dublin: Multiple bomb threats have been reported at the residence of Ireland's Deputy Premier Simon Harris, prompting a police investigation. A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana, Ireland's national police service, confirmed that they are looking into the threats. The Garda Dog Unit has been deployed to the scene, although Harris is currently not at home.
According to Ghana News Agency, this marks the third threat against Harris, who also serves as Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence, within just over a week. On Saturday, Harris revealed a 'vile' threat directed at a close family member. Earlier in the week, a woman was arrested and subsequently released after allegedly threatening Harris's children.
In a statement, Harris expressed concern over the threats, stating that they are aimed at intimidating him out of public office. "It is me today but it will be someone else tomorrow," Harris stated, emphasizing the need for a collective response to online threats and intimidation. He plans to consult with his Fine Gael party and government colleagues on the matter.
Harris reiterated that protecting his family remains his top priority and that he will be guided by them in deciding the next steps. This is not the first time Harris has faced threats, as he has previously received them through social media and a phoned bomb threat. Additionally, protests have been held outside his home, where his wife and children reside.
