Body Found After Intensive Search for Missing Boy in Northern Germany

Gstrow: A child's body has been found after a four-day search for a missing 8-year-old in northern Germany, with police suspecting a criminal offence in the case. Investigators said on Tuesday that the corpse is very likely that of the boy, Fabian, who had been missing in the town of Gstrow since Friday. 'According to the current state of the investigation, it can be assumed that someone else was responsible,' the police and public prosecutor's office announced. An autopsy is necessary to provide certainty on the body's identity.

According to Ghana News Agency, the boy's mother reported him missing on Friday evening, after he failed to come home. Emergency services spent days feverishly searching for the child, with 200 officers deployed on Monday alone. On Tuesday, divers searched a lake on the outskirts of the town, after indications from sniffer dogs. At the same time, the police continued to search forests and empty houses around Gstrow.

According to a spokesman, the body was finally found after a tip-off from a citizen who contacted the officers early on Tuesday. Gstrow is a town of some 30,000 inhabitants in the north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
