Black Queens Reach WAFCON Semi-Finals, Celebrated by Ghanaian Sports Minister

Accra: Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has congratulated the Black Queens of Ghana on their quarter-final victory over Algeria at the ongoing Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Ghana's Black Queens secured a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 2016 after edging Algeria 4-2 on penalties.

According to Ghana News Agency, the remarkable victory ensured a place in the final for the Black Queens, who will face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Mr Adams, in a statement on behalf of the Government of Ghana, said the quarter-final triumph of the Black Queens reflects their discipline and collective spirit.

"This is the first time since 2016 that Ghana has reached this stage, and it is a proud moment for all of us. The achievement reflects your discipline, composure and the strength of your collective spirit," the statement said. The Sports Minister also assured the team of the government's continued support, promising to provide them with everything required to maintain their focus for the upcoming match.

"The entire nation stands with you. Ghana is proud of you already. Stand grounded, stay united, and go into the next match knowing that a grateful country is behind you," the statement concluded.
