Abesim: Bishop Dr Richard Owusu Akyeaw, the General Overseer of Living Grace Ministries, has called on the media to actively participate in peace building and sustenance to foster progressive national development. He made these remarks at the 2024 Awards of the Bono and Ahafo Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association, held at Abesim near Sunyani.
According to Ghana News Agency, Bishop Dr Akyeaw emphasized the media's critical role as a catalyst in peace building and urged practitioners to enhance their efforts in promoting conflict resolution and social cohesion. He stressed that the media's contribution to peace management is essential for societal progress.
During his speech, Bishop Dr Akyeaw highlighted the importance of the media in maintaining peace, noting that the prevailing peace allowed for the enjoyment of events like the awards ceremony. He also warned that development cannot thrive amidst violent conflicts and disturbances, urging the media to report responsibly and avoid inciting division.
Bishop Dr Akyeaw expressed concern over chieftaincy disputes, succession issues, and land litigations that threaten regional peace. He encouraged the media to use their influence wisely, quoting, "the pen is mightier than the sword," and advised against actions that could divide communities.
The ceremony also recognized outstanding journalists in the region. Mr. Biiya Mukusah Ali, the Bono Regional Correspondent of Graphic Communications Group Limited, was named the overall best journalist, receiving two laptops, plaques, and citations as his prize. Other awardees included Mr. Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Gyan, Mr. Claude Kumi Abisa, Miss Jasmine Akwaboah, Mr. Michael Sarpong Mfum, Mr. Samuel Mensah, and Mr. Osei Laar, who were each honored with tablets, certificates, and plaques for their contributions in various categories.
