Bolgatanga: Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, the Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, has officially launched the 120th anniversary celebrations of the Diocese. The event, which took place at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Bolgatanga, saw the participation of religious and lay members from various outstations, parishes, and societies within the Diocese. The launch began with a Mass celebration.
According to Ghana News Agency, during his homily, Bishop Agyenta reflected on the history of salvation, emphasizing its dual manifestation through word and deed, starting from Moses to the prophets. He highlighted the continuation of this proclamation with the coming of Jesus Christ, who furthered the kingdom of God through word, deed, and miracles.
Bishop Agyenta discussed the role of the Church in this era, stating that the proclamation continues not only through words but also through the celebration of the Sacrament, which reveals God's presence to the world. He urged the religious and lay community to reflect on their faithfulness in transmitting God's word and their actions and deeds over the years.
The Bishop posed questions to the leaders and faithful, asking them to evaluate their success in spreading the word of God. He emphasized the importance of accounting for each person's contribution to the Church's mission, especially in spreading the word and celebrating the Sacrament.
Bishop Agyenta also addressed societal challenges in Ghana, urging the Church to provide hope to the people it serves. He stressed the importance of the Church's mission in giving hope to the masses, particularly those living in parishes and outstations, as they play a key role in community transformation.
The anniversary celebrations are set to culminate in 2026, having commenced in May 2025. The Diocese has outlined several programs and activities aimed at a successful event, including exploring new forms of evangelization and promoting the use of social media. The celebrations will conclude with a diocesan pastoral Congress next year.
