Berekum Presbyterian ‘A’ Primary Celebrates 120th Anniversary with Urgent Appeal for Classroom Re-roofing

Berekum: The Berekum Presbyterian 'A' Primary School in the Bono Region has marked its 120th anniversary with an appeal to past students and corporate entities to assist in re-roofing its classroom blocks to facilitate effective teaching and learning. The celebration highlighted the school's historical significance and its ongoing infrastructural challenges.

According to Ghana News Agency, the school's Headteacher, Mr. George Hinneh, emphasized the need for support during a durbar attended by school children, teachers, parents, and stakeholders in Berekum. Mr. Hinneh noted that the school, established in 1905 by the late Reverend Nicholas Timothy, a Presbyterian Priest and missionary, is facing issues with its leaking roof, which hinders educational activities, particularly during rainy seasons.

The anniversary was themed 'Celebrating our heritage: Education, a powerful tool for the Nation.' Mr. Hinneh also underscored the necessity of building a Kindergarten block to support early childhood education, a need driven by the growing number of school-aged children in the area. The absence of such facilities has reportedly led to declining enrollment at the lower primary level.

Mr. Hinneh highlighted the school's legacy of producing prominent politicians and distinguished individuals in academia and business. Additionally, Mr. John Nii-Abekah, the Bono Regional Manager of Presbyterian School, echoed the call for support from past students and stakeholders to construct a Kindergarten block.

Furthermore, Mr. David Owusu Ansah, the Berekum Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the Berekum Presbyterian Church for its continued support of the school. He urged teachers to intensify their efforts to enhance the students' academic performance.
