Be the Voice That Preaches for the Payment of Rates – Hohoe MCE Urges Religious Leaders

Hohoe: Mr Prosper Kumi, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has called upon religious leaders within the municipality to actively promote the payment of property rates and Internally Generated Fund (IGF) contributions to support local development efforts. He emphasized the importance of these contributions, as reliance solely on Common Funds is insufficient to address the challenges faced by the community.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Kumi made these remarks during the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving event held in Hohoe. He highlighted the theme of the event, 'Reflect, Reset, and Renewal for National Prosperity,' which was chosen by President John D. Mahama to inspire progress and development throughout Ghana. Mr Kumi stressed the importance of collective effort, shared vision, and unity of purpose in achieving national prosperity.

Mr Kumi acknowledged the difficulties faced by households, businesses, and institutions in recent years, citing economic challenges, health crises, and infrastructure gaps. Despite these hurdles, he expressed optimism about the ongoing projects and commitments shaping progress in the municipality, including efforts to improve the Eastern Corridor Road, which is crucial for connecting communities and facilitating trade in the region.

Addressing the issue of water rationing in Hohoe Township, Mr Kumi called for consistent and safe access to water for all residents. He also emphasized the need for transparency and opportunities for the youth, urging a collective reset of mindsets, habits, and relationships to align with the community's values and goals. He highlighted the importance of addressing poor sanitation, which poses public health challenges and affects environmental dignity.

Reverend Monsignor Anthony Kornu, Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, encouraged citizens to express gratitude for the nation's peaceful atmosphere and urged unity among the populace. He advocated for the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, free from partisan politics.

The event also featured Islamic prayers, with the slaughtering of a ram symbolizing the day's significance. Sarki Tajudeen Mairiga, Zongo Chief of Hohoe, underscored the importance of the occasion for offering thanksgiving and prayers for the nation. He appealed for peace and safety in the Nkwanta area of the Oti Region, emphasizing that progress is unattainable without peace, and expressed hope for a similar atmosphere of peace and unity during future events.
