Bawumia commissions Tsatsadu Centre of Excellence

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commissioned the Tsatsadu Centre of Excellence located at Alavanyo Abehenease of the Volta Region.The Centre forms part of the Bui Power Authority's (BPA) Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy.Dr Bawumia commended the BPA and other stakeholders for the initiative, which was borne out of the Authority's establishment of the Tsatsadu Generating Station.He said he would pursue his promise to add 2,000 megawatts of solar power to Ghana's energy mix since the country's consumption of electricity was under 4,000 megawatts annually.Dr Bawumia said his proposal would go a long way to reduce the cost of electricity very significantly, adding that his goal was to bring down cost of electricity by 50 per cent for households and businesses.He said he had every confidence, which was further enhanced that 'It is Possible' and promised that in working with Bui Power Authority, within the first four years under his presidency, they would go all out to make the addition of the megawatts leading to economic expansion.The multipurpose building is designed to enhance social activities of the local community and to be used by lecturers and students who undertake educational tour of the 120kW Tsatsadu Micro Hydro Generating Station.The Centre comprises a performance stage, two storerooms/offices, washrooms, an open area that fosters natural light, suitable for cultural performances and social gatherings and a spacious seating area for user comfort.Some of its external works include paved areas, landscaping, chain-link fencing, access roads, soak-away systems, overhead water tank stand, plastic water tank, borehole and car parking space.Mr Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, Chief Executive Officer, BPA, said the idea to build the Centre came about when Mr John-Peter Amewu, Member of Parliament for Hohoe was then the Energy Minister.He said the Centre was built to accommodate engineering students from universities who wanted practical training in hydro generating plant.'We will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology soon on this matter.'Mr Amewu, on his part, described the Station and the Centre as unprecedented projects in the Constituency.He asked the electorate to vote for Dr Bawumia as the next president while renewing his mandate as the Member of Parliament.Source: Ghana News Agency
