Her leadership was characterized by quiet yet impactful service, notably in areas such as maternal and child health, advocacy for breastfeeding, and support for vulnerable families. She also provided essential resources to hospitals, including the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia government hospital, both located in Kumasi.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Sarfo Kantanka, a historian at the Manhyia palace, highlighted the achievements of the late Asantehemaa, emphasizing her grace, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her people. Her generosity was noted to have lifted burdens and restored dignity to many individuals. Nana Konadu Yiadom was revered as the embodiment of Ashanti womanhood, serving as a custodian of tradition, peacemaker, and guiding force in public service.
Even at nearly 100 years of age, Nana Konadu Yiadom was respected for her strength and loyalty, as she welcomed visiting monarchs and dignitaries. Her role as Asantehemaa was significant within the Asante Kingdom, where she acted as a guardian of legitimacy for successors to the throne, custodian of traditions, and mediator in disputes, particularly those concerning women.
Nana Sarfo Kantanka explained that Nana Konadu Yiadom undertook key roles in the traditional governance of the Asante Kingdom, serving as a senior royal advisor to the Asantehene and custodian of the matrilineal royal lineage. Her responsibilities also included advising the king on state matters and ensuring the observance of customs and traditions.
The authority of an Asantehemaa extended to intervening in conflicts, particularly those involving women or domestic affairs, with the ability to intercede in matters brought before the King. Nana Konadu Yiadom, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98, left a legacy of blending tradition with modernity during her eight-year reign.
