Asante Presbytery Donates 175 Pints of Blood to KATH

Kumasi: The Asante Presbytery has donated 175 pints of blood to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to support emergency care at Ghana's second-largest referral hospital.

According to Ghana News Agency, the annual blood donation exercise, which began in 2022, is part of the Church's corporate social responsibility. It was carried out simultaneously at the Peyer Congregation in Bantama, Christ Congregation, and the Presbytery Office in Adum. Church members were screened and voluntarily donated blood at designated sites.

Reverend Samuel Ahima-Yeboah, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery, visited the donation centers and highlighted the significance of the exercise in saving lives. 'This is a vital contribution to national blood stock. It reflects our commitment to serve humanity and support healthcare delivery,' he said.

He noted that this year's donation exceeded the previous year's by 50 pints, calling it an encouraging sign and a motivation to expand the initiative in the future. The blood donation initiative was first launched during the Presbytery's Centenary Celebration and has since been institutionalized as an annual event held in July.

Reverend Ahima-Yeboah urged other churches and faith-based organizations to adopt similar initiatives to help address the nation's blood supply challenges. Mr. Christian Oppong Mensah, Head of Blood Donor Recruitment at KATH's Transfusion Medicine Unit, commended the Asante Presbytery for its consistent and dependable support over the past four years.

'The Asante Presbytery remains the only faith-based organization in the Ashanti Region that has supported our blood bank annually,' he stated. He explained that KATH serves 12 out of Ghana's 16 regions and requires a minimum of 80 units of blood daily, making the Presbytery's contributions vital to saving lives.
