Sunyani: Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei, the Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, has been elected as the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) during the 22nd Biennial National Delegates Conference held in Sunyani.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adjei was elected by popular acclamation at the conference, which took place at the Sunyani Technical University auditorium. The event brought together representatives and delegates from all the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country. Alongside Mr Adjei, other newly elected executives will lead the Association under the theme "Empowering Local Governance: A New Dawn for Electoral Area Development" for the next three years.The new executive team includes Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong as the First Vice President, Ms Philomina Opoku-Asare as Treasurer, and Ms Helena Mensah overseeing the National Women's Caucus, all of whom were elected unopposed. Mr Daniel Kwaku Mensah won the positio n of Second Vice President with 438 votes, defeating his challenger, Mr Michael Ahwireng, who received 94 votes in the election conducted by the Electoral Commission. Additionally, Nana Samuel Essel-Bediako and Ms Gertrude Adzo Borklo were elected as Trustees of the Association.In his acceptance speech, Mr Adjei expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and promised to work diligently towards enhancing the welfare of Assembly members (AMs) throughout the country. He emphasized that capacity building for AMs is vital for strengthening local government systems and structures. Mr Adjei assured that the executives would proactively address emerging challenges at the MMDAs to advance the development of local communities.
