Albert Dwumfour Re-Elected GJA President

Accra: Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has been re-elected President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) following the 2025 GJA National Executive Elections. He secured 445 out of a total of 690 valid votes cast, defeating his main contender, Mr Charles Mawusi, who polled 245 votes.According to Ghana News Agency, in the Vice Presidential race, Ms Rebecca Ekpe emerged victorious with 414 votes, ahead of Ms Mary Mensah who garnered 272 votes. Mr Dominic Hlordzi was elected General Secretary, obtaining 443 votes against his opponent, Mr Akwasi Agyeman, who received 247 votes. The position of Organising Secretary went to Mr Suleiman Mustapha, who polled 365 votes, surpassing Mr Maxwell Kudekor who attained 321 votes. Mrs Bertha Badu-Agyei was elected Treasurer with 401 votes, defeating her challenger, Ms Theodora Ametedor Yakanu, who secured 287 votes. Mr Zadok Kwame Gyesi won the Public Affairs position with 431 votes, beating Mr Caesar Abagali who polled 253 votes.In his victory speech, Mr Dwumfour expres sed gratitude to members of the Association for the confidence reposed in him for a second term. He remarked that his victory was not a personal achievement, but one for the Association and its entire membership. He stated that he was committed to working collaboratively for the advancement of the GJA.Mr Dwumfour highlighted that it is a victory for every journalist who believes in the power of truth, strives for excellence, and champions the cause of the free and responsible press in Ghana. He described the victory as a testament to their collective vision for a stronger, more vibrant, and more impactful GJA.He indicated that his second term would focus on consolidating the gains made, learning from past challenges, and advancing the Association's impact. Mr Dwumfour reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare, safety, and professional development of journalists, pledging to continue advocating for improved working conditions, enhanced press freedom, and increased protection for all media practit ioners.Mr Dwumfour emphasized the importance of combating impunity against journalists, ensuring that those who attack or threaten members are brought to justice, and creating a freer media environment for all. He concluded by stating their resolve to hold power accountable, to be the voice of the voiceless, and to provide accurate, balanced, and insightful information that empowers people to make informed decisions.
