African Mining Week 2025 to Host Global Leaders Shaping the Mineral Economy

Cape Town: African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 is set to serve as a pivotal forum for international collaboration as African nations strive to meet increasing mineral demands by partnering with global mining enterprises.

According to African Press Organization, the event will feature prominent industry leaders, including Craig Miller, CEO of Valterra Platinum, and Vinay Somera, CEO of Isondo Precious Metals. They will engage in discussions on South Africa's strategic role in the global Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) market, a sector where the country dominates with over 75% of the world's platinum production. Valterra is targeting an enhanced output of 3.4 million ounces by 2025, while Isondo is focusing on utilizing local PGMs in hydrogen fuel cell production.

Marna Cloete, President and CEO of Ivanhoe Mines, and Godwin Beene, Country Manager of First Quantum Minerals, are also slated to participate. They will contribute to a panel on mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships within the mining industry. Both Ivanhoe Mines and First Quantum Minerals are making substantial investments to boost copper output in Zambia, aligning with the country's goal of reaching 3 million tons per year by 2031. First Quantum is enhancing its Kansanshi and Sentinel operations, whereas Ivanhoe Mines is advancing the development of its Kamoa-Kakula project, recognized as one of the most significant copper assets globally.
