Adaklu DCE Urges Police Administration to Enhance Security Personnel in District

General

Adaklu: Mr. Jerry Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE), has made an urgent appeal to the Police administration to increase its personnel in the district to enhance peace and security. Currently, only 13 police officers are tasked with overseeing the vast expanse of Adaklu and its more than 90 communities, which Mr. Ameko deemed insufficient. He emphasized the need for additional police posts within the district.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ameko voiced his concerns during a meeting with Madam Esther Buakumah, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for Adaklu District, who was introducing the new Volta Regional Police Commander to the Adaklu Traditional Council at Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V’s palace in Adaklu Abuadi. However, the chiefs were informed of the Regional Commander’s absence due to an urgent national assignment in Accra.

Mr. Ameko urged local citizens to support police efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities. He highlighted that security is a collective responsibility. Additionally, he announced plans to convene a District Security Council meeting to address issues, including the presence of Fulani herdsmen and other security challenges in the area.

The DCE also mentioned that investors are expected to arrive in the district soon to establish businesses and enhance agricultural activities. He requested cooperation from traditional authorities and landowners to provide land for these ventures, which would open up the district and create employment opportunities for the youth.

Concerns were also raised about reports of police personnel from other districts allegedly harassing drivers and traders, especially during Adaklu Waya animal market days. Mr. Ameko called on the Regional Police Commander to address these ‘unpatriotic officers’ and prevent such actions.

Furthermore, Mr. Ameko discussed plans to revive dormant quarries in the district, which could generate employment and revenue for the Assembly. He expressed gratitude to the President, chiefs, and Assembly members for their support and promised to work collaboratively to advance Adaklu.

Togbe Agbobada IV, Senior Divisional Chief of Adaklu Anfoe, spoke on behalf of his peers, expressing concern over negative perceptions of Adaklu and urging citizens to counteract these views. He also expressed confidence in receiving government support for development projects and congratulated Mr. Ameko on his DCE nomination and endorsement.

The chiefs presented gifts to the Regional Police Commander through the Adaklu District Police Commander. The event was attended by Mr. Sylvanus Plaha, the Adaklu District Coordinating Director, Mr. Mark Dodzi Hoenyekor, the Presiding Member of the Adaklu District Assembly, and other assembly members, chiefs, and queen mothers from the traditional council.
