2nd Edition of CNC Ebo Whyte Student Drama Competition Commences in Accra

Accra: The Centre for National Culture (CNC), Greater Accra, has inaugurated this year's edition of the CNC's Ebo Whyte Student Drama Competition at Accra Academy in Accra. Organised by the CNC in collaboration with Roverman Productions, the competition saw the participation of four schools on the first day, with the remaining three schools anticipated to join subsequently.According to Ghana News Agency, the schools that participated in the opening day of the zonal competition include Accra Academy, Accra Girls Senior High School, Kaneshie Technical Senior High, and Ebenezer Senior High Schools, all part of zone one. After the conclusion of the five zonal competitions, the finalists from each zone are set to compete at the National Theatre in the grand finale scheduled for next month.Mr. Eric Ohene-Larbi, the Acting Regional Director of CNC, emphasized in his address that the competition provides a valuable platform for young actors and actresses to develop their skills and showcase their talents. He high lighted that participants are encouraged to be bold, express themselves, and aim for excellence in the performing arts.Mr. Ohene-Larbi further noted the importance of theatre arts in society, as it enables storytelling, identity exploration, cultural sharing, and memory preservation. He stated that the mission of the CNC through this initiative is to nurture creative talents, build confidence, and inspire critical thinking among the youth.He also acknowledged the steadfast support of Roverman Productions and Playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte, who have been instrumental to the competition since its inception. "We believe this partnership would grow stronger and contribute significantly to the development of theatre arts and Ghana's evolving creative industry," Mr. Ohene-Larbi remarked.He called on benevolent organizations, individuals, and major stakeholders passionate about drama to support the CNC in promoting Ghanaian culture and enriching the country's cultural heritage. Master Daniel Mensah, a student of A ccra Academy, praised the organizers and urged authorities to sustain the competition to nurture more talents for the entertainment industry.
