Tunis: Zouhaier Maghzaoui, Secretary-General of Echaab Movement and its presidential candidate, said on Tuesday, "our candidacy for the presidenci does not imply abandoning the July 25 process, which our movement was the first to support.""We position ourselves as an alternative committed to meeting the people's expectations regarding this process," he added during a press conference organised by the movement at its headquarters in Tunis.Maghzaoui stated that he is "not running against any other individual, but presenting himself as a bearer of an alternative project aimed at achieving the anticipated reforms in various domains."He recalled that Echaab Movement continues to support the "process" due to its alignment with President Kais Saied's objectives concerning July 25, deeming it a "significant historical moment aimed at protecting the revolution."However, Maghzaoui emphasised that several reforms could have been accomplished over the past three years.The Echaab SG also called on the Independen t High Authority for Elections (ISIE) to demonstrate objectivity, open the door to anyone wishing to run for the presidency, and treat all candidates equally.Maghzaoui was a member of parliament during the 2014-2019 legislature and the following term until the announcement of exceptional measures on July 25, 2021.Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
