Accra: Mr Zadok Kwame Gyesi, a Public Affairs Officer candidate for the upcoming Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) elections, has engaged journalists in Tema, promising to enhance the association's visibility. Mr Gyesi emphasized the crucial role of communication in elevating the association's profile and committed to boosting its presence across all social media platforms.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gyesi highlighted the outdated information on the association's website, underscoring the need for timely communication. He proposed the introduction of an archival unit to allow both journalists and non-journalists to trace the GJA's past activities.
Mr Gyesi also pledged to advocate for the national executive to allocate part of the membership dues for souvenirs such as pen drives and notepads. These items would not only serve as practical tools for members but also help in promoting the association's visibility.
He stressed the importance of celebrating members' achievements akin to practices in other associations, such as the Institute of Public Relations. By posting pictures and congratulatory messages on the association's media outlets, members would feel recognized and valued.
Addressing the GJA awards, Mr Gyesi called for a restructuring of the award categories to ensure recipients are suitably rewarded. He shared his experience, noting that the lowest monetary award he received was from the GJA.
Lastly, Mr Gyesi pointed out the need to improve welfare among journalists, suggesting that not all journalists are inclined to apply for awards. Therefore, alternative means should be established for members to benefit from the association.
