Gwira: With a few days to the 2024 general election, the Gwira Youth Development Association (GYDA) in the Evaloe-Adjomoro-Gwira Constituency of the Western Region has called on the government to complete all abandoned projects in the area. Mr. Isaac Wandah Kwofie, the Chairman for the Association, speaking at a press conference, said the state of those projects, including roads, markets, and AstroTurf among others, were a source of worry for residents, and that the government must expedite action to complete them and bring relief to the people.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kwofie highlighted that on August 18, 2020, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited Nananom at Gwira Bamiankor to initiate the construction of the Gwira Aiyinasi - Gwira Wiawso road. The locals were pleased with this development as Gwira lacks a bitumen road. However, he noted that less than four months after the 2020 general election, the contractor abandoned the project and has not returned to continue the work.Touching o n other abandoned projects, Mr. Kwofie mentioned that a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East had initiated the construction of an AstroTurf for sporting activities last year, yet the project remains incomplete. He further stated that the current MCE also initiated the construction of a new market center at Gwira Aiyinasi, but to date, only the footings are visible.Mr. Kwofie expressed that the government's inability to complete these projects is hampering socio-economic development in the area. He appealed to the authorities to intervene and complete the projects to improve the quality of life for the residents. Additionally, he raised concerns about other pressing issues, such as illegal mining activities that have polluted the River Ankobra, which is the community's only source of water, and a healthcare facility that is in a deplorable state.
