Women Scientists Urged to Impact Society Positively

Sunyani: Dr Mary Antwi, the Head of the Department of Environmental Management at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has urged women scientists to overcome barriers and impact society meaningfully. She emphasized the importance of balancing professional and personal responsibilities to make a societal impact.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Antwi shared her insights at a mentorship and networking workshop for women scientists, part of the Association of Commonwealth Universities Gender Grant Project. This project aims to mentor and support women scientists and female students in science by sharing experiences, offering guidance, and showcasing success stories.

Dr Antwi expressed concern about the number of women who abandon their science careers due to unforeseen challenges. She highlighted the need for guidance to help women understand their strengths and better prepare for challenges. Dr Antwi stressed the importance of equipping women in science with the right mindset and tools to navigate their careers and contribute to societal development.

The Reverend Dr Abena Owusu Adjapong, a lecturer at the University's School of Natural Resources, spoke on self-awareness, networking, and scientific collaboration. She encouraged students to understand their strengths and weaknesses, make informed decisions, and drive meaningful change through effective collaboration.

Rev. Dr Adjapong advised students to continually improve themselves, build genuine connections, and add value to themselves through networking. Mrs Eva Atika Bakuri, the Head of the Guidance and Counseling Centre at UENR, emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health and nurturing various aspects of well-being. She encouraged students to focus on personal renewal by embracing new knowledge and re-energizing themselves.
