Women in Tech Global Targets Empowerment of Five Million Women and Girls in STEAM by 2030.

Accra: Women In Tech Global is set to empower five million women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) by 2030 through impactful actions in education, business, digital inclusion, and advocacy.According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Luvina Sandra Atsu, Chapter Ambassador, announced this ambitious initiative at the launch of the Women in Tech Ghana Chapter in Accra. The event, themed 'Mentoring the Next Generation of Leaders,' highlighted the organisation's commitment to building a community where access to knowledge and opportunities in STEAM are based on interest and ability, rather than gender.Women in Tech Global, established in 2018, has emerged as a leading global organisation supporting women in STEAM. The Ghana Chapter began its operations on June 3, 2024, with three Executive Members and has since expanded to seven Executive Members and 137 members on its WhatsApp platform. The chapter also maintains a presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.M adam Atsu emphasized the importance of mentorship, noting that young girls often lack guidance in choosing career paths in STEAM fields. She called for structured mentorship platforms to connect mentors and mentees, inspiring future generations and addressing the gender gap in technology.The organisation plans to offer various programs to build skills and confidence among women. For the first phase (January to March 2025), digital literacy and basic programming will be taught to 50 participants. The second phase (April to June 2025) will feature a web development and problem-solving event for 30 participants. Subsequent phases will focus on data science, analytics, cloud computing, devOps, and advanced programming, running through June 2026.Madam Atsu urged stakeholders, including institutions, businesses, and nonprofits, to collaborate in extending affordable educational resources, particularly to women. She emphasized the need for partnerships in organising training programs, workshops, and outreach ini tiatives to address technology gaps in schools.In conclusion, the Chapter Ambassador called for collective efforts to create a world where women thrive in STEAM, shaping the future of technology with confidence and excellence.
