Western Regional Minister Calls for Increased Electoral Participation Among NPP Supporters

TAKORADI: Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to actively participate in future elections, following a notably low turnout among party supporters in the recent general election. The minister emphasized the importance of addressing internal issues within the party rather than expressing dissatisfaction by abstaining from voting in the upcoming 2028 general elections.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah attributed the NPP's electoral setbacks to their supporters' lack of participation in the recent polls. He highlighted the contrasting loyalty demonstrated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters, who have historically maintained strong party allegiance despite unmet developmental expectations in regions such as the Volta Region. The minister reiterated the NPP's achievements in governance, citing the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme, which now includes coverage for kidney dialysi s and childhood cancer. He also noted significant investments in infrastructure, technology, and education, specifically the implementation of the free Senior High School policy that has increased school enrollment and elevated educational opportunities for numerous households.Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah expressed disappointment over the electoral outcomes, given the government's efforts in various sectors, and emphasized that preparation for the 2028 elections has already begun. He also condemned the instances of post-electoral violence reported across the country and warned those involved that legal consequences would follow, while urging restraint to avoid further escalation of tensions.
